NCEA Change Programme rephasing

Today the Minister of Education, Hon. Erica Stanford, announced that the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Change Programme will be rephased by two years to enable better alignment between curriculum and NCEA. The roll-out of NCEA Level 2 qualifications, previously planned for 2026, will be rephased to 2028. The roll-out of NCEA Level 3 qualifications, previously planned for 2027, will be rephased to 2029.

We understand this news may come as a surprise to you, especially those of you who have been working closely with us on the implementation of this work.
Many of you will be considering the effect of this decision on your work and people. Here at Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we are working as quickly as possible to assess the impacts and will be in touch soon to discuss how we work together through this change.
